HALF HOURLY (HH) ELECTRICITY METERS

Providing exceptional value for money and a range of added features

What are half hourly meters?

Half Hourly electricity meters are mandatory for all business electricity customers with a maximum demand of 100 kW or more in any single half-hour period on 3 occasions per year.

Is half hourly meter electricity pricing different to standard pricing?

Yes, half hourly meter pricing does work differently to standard pricing. Because the energy supplier gets accurate and up-to-date data, it can base your pricing on the individual energy usage of your business. You will also have a ‘Capacity/Availability Charge.

Can I switch my half hourly business energy tariff?

Yes, but half hourly contract negotiation can be an involved and complex process, due to constantly fluctuating wholesale market prices, variable supplier hedging strategies and the requirement for detailed demand data.

When your half hourly business energy contract is up for renewal it is best to obtain all the half hourly data and submit it to suppliers who specialise in this market.

Half Hourly metering costs:

Any business with a half-hourly meter currently pays 2 separate costs! These are the MOP charge (Meter Operator charge) and the DC charges (Data Collection). The combined costs can run anywhere from £300 to £600 per annum. They are often invoiced within your electricity contract along with the standing charge and consumption so you may not have full visibility of the actuall costs.

Whilst HH metering can be expensive, if the data is used correctly it can lead to significant savings for the customer. This is where our smart meter reporting platform can help you.
